On the 21st of December 1923 the Common Council of Vienna resolved the construction of 25.000 apartments in order to put an end to the terrible scarcity of lodgings after the war. This resulted i.a. in the in this volume presented Reumann-Hof (Arch. Gessner), Quarinplatz (Arch. Theisz & Jaksch), Winarskyhof (Arch. Hoffmann, Behrens, Strand, Loos, Frank), etc. With the very rare second volume devoted to the aesthetical and artistic side of the social housing projects: sculptures, ornaments, frescos, etc. (subtitled: Kunst und Kunstgewerbe).
